BENTON, Mo. (AP) — A southeast Missouri high school football player has been shot in a school parking lot.
The Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/1lOqhyu ) identifies the victim of the Monday night incident outside Kelly High School in Benton as rising sophomore Kaden Robert. School officials and Scott County Sheriff Rick Scott declined to discuss details of the shooting on Tuesday, including the extent of the student's injuries.
In a written statement, Scott County Superintendent Farah Jones called the shooting "a tragic event." The football team's Facebook page has an image with the student's initials and his uniform number.
Robert also played baseball and was a member of the school's honor roll. The school has canceled all football activities until late July and scheduled a meeting for late Tuesday afternoon to discuss the incident.
