HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) — The city of Hannibal has lifted an order to boil local drinking water after a suspected lightning strike at a municipal water treatment plant.
The Hannibal Courier-Post (bit.ly/1mlLFW9 ) reports that city Board of Public Works removed the restriction Thursday afternoon, one day earlier than expected.
The order was put in place Monday after the city's water treatment plant at Riverview Park experienced a system failure the previous day that is believed to have been caused by lightning. The restrictions were initially supposed to only last through mid-week before city officials extended the order.
