UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (AP) — The University City School District will no longer accept transfer students from the unaccredited Normandy school district.
The district's board voted Thursday to tell students who had already transferred from Normandy that they will not be allowed to return to University City in the fall.
The board also voted not to charge lower tuition for transfer students from Riverview Gardens. Education Commissioner Chris Nicastro asked districts to reduce tuition to prevent Riverview Gardens from becoming insolvent.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1o9ozGk ) University City schools had 82 transfer students from Normandy this year and nine from Riverview Gardens.
Last week, the Francis Howell school district voted to send 350 Normandy students back to that district.
The state education department will take over the Normandy district July 1.
