SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — The athletic director at Drury University has resigned.

The university said in a release Tuesday that Pat Atwell resigned to pursue other interests.

The Springfield News-Leader reports (http://sgfnow.co/1wsD75O ) that Atwell says he hasn't accepted a new position. He declined further comment.

Drury noted that during Atwell's seven seasons overseeing the athletic department 13 teams won national championships. Drury competes in 17 sports in NCAA Division II. Both men's and women's basketball teams reached the Elite Eight in March, a year after the men's team won the national title.

The university says Scott Puryear, Drury's sports information director, will serve as interim athletic director while a search is conducted for Atwell's replacement.
