2015: Germanwings Flight 9525 crashes in the French Alps, killing all 150 people aboard. Experts were at first mystified about the crash, blaming pilot error or a possible equipment malfunction, but eventually determined the crash to be an apparent mass murder-suicide. Investigators believe pilot Andreas Lubitz locked his co-pilot out of the cockpit, ignored radio messages and deliberately crashed the German airliner. The crash unnerved fliers everywhere, led to changes in airlines' policies and sparked a global debate about how to monitor the mental health of pilots.
