Underage drunk driving numbers increase

COLUMBIA, Mo. - 18- year-old Michael Kerrigan was pulled over Wednesday afternoon after rear-ending the car in front of him. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated because the officer noticed Kerrigan was swaying and had a hard time maintaining his balance.

Underage drunken driving has decreased between 2011 and 2014, according to statistics from the Missouri Highway Patrol. But Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Missouri Highway Patrol said it started to increase again in 2015.

M.A.D.D. will have their Victim Impact Panel Thursday night in Columbia for court-ordered people with DWIs. Robbie Pace Courtright, president of M.A.D.D. for Central Missouri, said the majority of people who come to the Columbia panels are college kids.
