On Friday, Boone County officials are asking the community to fight back against violent crimes by speaking out.
Prosecuting attorney Dan Knight addressed recent high-profile crime to address police needs.
Knight said fighting violent crime is an ongoing discussion for local law enforcement but they still need help.
He is calling the public to come forward with any information they know about open cases.
A year ago, Knight notice an increase in "shots fired" cases in Boone County.
Ten days ago, another police "shorts fired" report came.
through -- a man was shot dead in his home in Columbia.
"There is no magic wand out there we can wave in law enforcement and just get rid of violent crimes, these shots fired cases," Knight said.
Police can't be everywhere all the time and say the public can help be the eyes and ears of violent crime around Boone County.
The public calling local authorities can give police clues to solve cases, in extreme cases, the main evidence to bring an offender to justice.
