At least 4 people hospitalized after crash shuts down I-70 in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. - UPDATE 10/30: One passenger from the crash, Marie Mitchell, 59, is still in the hospital but is in fair condition. 

Another passenger, Michelle Jackson, 43, has been discharged. 

UPDATE 4: Late Friday night, a MoDOT crew member told ABC 17 News at least four people were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash shut down I-70 between Providence Road and Rangeline Street. One person was being treated for serious injuries.

The crew member said two semi-trucks and one car was involved.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. and left drivers sitting in traffic for more than one hour.

As of 11:52 p.m., investigators were still surveying the scene and drivers were being diverted off the road to Business Loop 70 and Rangeline Street.

Timeline of Updates

UPDATE 3, 10:18 p.m.: One lane of traffic is back open to get traffic away from the scene.

UPDATE 2: Multiple viewers caught in the traffic have been communicating with ABC 17 News. All have been stuck for more than one hour and some have turned off their vehicles.

Other traffic has been diverted off the highway.

UPDATE 1: As of 9:55 p.m., both lanes of traffic continue to be shut down. At least one person is being treated on the scene.

At least one semi-truck was involved, among other vehicles.

ORIGINAL, 9:05 p.m.: Right now eastbound traffic is backed up on I-70 due to a crash.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. between Providence Road and Rangeline Street.

At least four ambulances were called to the scene.

If you need to travel, avoid I-70 at this time.

ABC 17 News is working to find out more information about what caused the crash and will update this article as we get new details.
