Back-to-school sales tax holiday kicks off August 2
Summer is winding down quickly and it’s almost back-to-school time for students in Missouri.
The Department of Revenue announced Thursday the state's annual Sales Tax Holiday will begin on Friday, Aug. 2 and runs through Sun., Aug. 4.
During that weekend, shoppers will not have to pay state sales tax on school supplies, personal computers and some clothing. Any person who make a qualified purchase can participate in the holiday and they do not need to be a student.
Major cities in Mid-Missouri that elected not to participate including Columbia, Jefferson City, Fulton, Boonville, Fayette, Sedalia, Camdenton, Osage Beach and Moberly.
More information on the Sales Tax Holiday and a list of cities, counties and districts that have opted out of the tax holiday can be found on the DOR website.
