COLUMBIA, Mo. -

Columbia officials say the discolored water in the city is safe to drink.

On Thursday, "operational changes" with the city's water system caused sediment to be stirred up in the West Ash Pumping Station reservoir.

That sediment then traveled into the water mains in west Columbia. Water and Light crews are flushing the lines to clear the sediment, but officials say the water is still safe to drink, despite having a yellowish color.

Water and Light spokeswoman Connie Kacprowicz says customers can run the water in their homes and buildings until it becomes clear again.
