Columbia Parks & Recreation looks to build community relationships

Neighborhood Park Fun Days

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Columbia Parks and Recreation Department held a Neighborhood Park Fun Day Wednesday evening at Indian Hills Park, one of a series of events to be held this fall.

The events are designed to bring people in the community together, and have them visit their nearby parks.

Parks and Recreation staff are joining with area organizations for the effort. They provide a variety of activities and games, but attendees are also welcome to bring their bicycles for minor repairs, such as filling up tires with air.

Columbia Police Officer Andria Heese says, "Sometimes when events happen near the parks, whether it's near McKee Park, near Indian Hills, the parks get a bad reputation even if that incident doesn't happen here. So when we have events like this, it shows people there are fun things to do here, and that kids can still come here and not be afraid to be here."

The Neighborhood Park Fun Day events are free, and they don't require registration.
