MONITEAU COUNTY, Mo. - UPDATE 1/16: Preston Cash had his arraignment this morning and is scheduled for counsel status on March 6 at 9 a.m.
He is charged in Moniteau County with tampering with a motor vehicle, two counts of property damage, assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeing.
UPDATE 1/13: Moniteau County deputies said they arrested the man Saturday morning, after he led several different law enforcement agencies on a chase Friday and again early Saturday.
In a news release, Moniteau County deputies said they originally responded to Baines Lane on Highway O Friday to assist Cooper County deputies on an investigation of a stolen vehicle.
Deputies said shortly after they left, they saw a vehicle matching the description of the stolen truck and attempted to stop it. They said that's when the truck fled from them back into Cooper County, toward a creek at the end of Baines Lane, and into some woods.
Deputies said one woman was taken into custody near where the vehicle was found in the woods, but a man, who was identified as Preston Cash, 20, of Eldon, continued to flee.
Deputies said at the time, Cash was reported armed with a handgun while continuing to flee into the woods.
Law enforcement officers with the Cooper County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Tipton Police Department went to the area to assist Moniteau County deputies with setting up a perimeter and searching the wooded area, according to the release.
Deputies said they then called for the Missouri State Highway Patrol Air Unit to assist in finding Cash, who also had outstanding warrants out of Miller County.
After searching the area, the law enforcement officers could not find Cash and called off the search because of low visibility, deputies said.
According to the release, the Cooper County Sheriff's Office received a report from a homeowner on Oakland Church Road that a man was beating on her door and attempting to gain entry early Saturday morning.
Deputies said the description of the man given by the homeowner matched Cash's description. Cooper County deputies then notified Moniteau County deputies about the man attempting to force entry to the home and headed over to assist.
Before Cooper County deputies arrived, Cash reportedly stole a vehicle from the home and fled the area, deputies said.
Moniteau County deputies then started patrolling secondary roads in the area to try and find the vehicle, according to the release. Deputies said a short time later, one of them found the vehicle, which was headed toward Jamestown, and attempted to stop it.
Deputies said the vehicle fled again and they followed it into Jamestown, where they said Cash drove through several yards and fences before coming to a stop.
The Moniteau County deputy then got of of his vehicle and approached Cash, who was still inside the stolen vehicle, and attempted to take him into custody, deputies said.
Deputies said Cash attempted to flee again, rammed into the deputy's patrol vehicle, and got onto Highway 87 northbound. The deputy was in pursuit again.
Deputies said Cash turned onto a farm just north of Jamestown, and drove back into a field where he came to a stop.
The deputy then got out of his patrol vehicle and broke the driver's side window while Cash was trying to reach for something in the backseat, deputies said.
The deputy tasered and pepper sprayed Cash before pulling him out of the vehicle and taking him into custody, according to the release.
Deputies said Cash was taken to the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said they later found a handgun in the stolen vehicle.
Deputies said Cash will be facing charges of property damage, failure to yield, assault on law enforcement and possession of a stolen vehicle in Moniteau County. They said Cash is also wanted for questioning in connection with thefts in Morgan, Cooper, Moniteau and Saline counties.
