The diverging diamond interchange itself costs $3.5 million.
The interchange is part of a nearly $13 million project that will also widen and improve Stadium Boulevard in west Columbia.
In a diverging diamond interchange, the flow of traffic crosses over to the other side of the roadway. This view is heading southbound on Stadium Boulevard, crossing over I-70, toward the Columbia Mall and Broadway.

Before the Springfield, Mo. diverging diamond interchange was implemented, road officials saw nearly 160 traffic accidents.
After the Springfield, Mo. diverging diamond interchange was implemented, traffic accidents dropped to 110.
