Lincoln University cuts at least 5 faculty positions

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - At least five faculty were fired from Lincoln University less than a week after the end of the 2016 fall semester.

Faculty senate chair Bryan Salmons tells ABC 17 News that one of those fired was just three years away from retirement.

"Some of the firings were very unexpected," Salmons said.

This comes almost a month after the University's president Dr. Kevin Rome announced layoffs should be expected.

The board of curators voted to cut two degree programs; The Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education, the Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Science with an Emphasis in Sacred Music.
