JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Some Jefferson City drivers created a traffic hazard Sunday morning by trying to pick up what turned out to be counterfeit $100 bills littering the roadway, police said.
Police said they responded to the traffic hazard around 9:15 a.m. after someone discarded a large amount of fake $100 bills in the road.
Police said they were able to pick up numerous fake bills themselves, which had identical serial numbers and pink Asian script on the front.
Police warn local businesses an unknown amount of the fake bills could've been picked up by passing motorists and they may see an increase of counterfeit $100 bills in circulation because of it.
Police also warn that people may not realize they have fake $100 bills in their possession.
