Moberly man arrested for child endangerment after officers find child in abandoned vehicle

MOBERLY, Mo. - UPDATE 10/25: Moberly police identified the man accused of leaving his child in an abandoned car. 

Police arrested Brandon President of Columbia. 

According to the probable cause statement, police initially found President banging on a door with multiple lacerations on his arms and face and drooling at the mouth. 

President told police he had ingested cocaine and marijuana and felt like he could not breath. 

Police said President had blacked out and could not remember where his child was. President said the last time he remembered seeing the child was in the back seat of his car.

When police found President's abandoned car, they found the child bundled up in a coat, shivering because of the cold temperatures.

Police said the child told officers he was scared that he would never find his parents. 

Officers said they also found marijuana in the car.

President has been charged with endangering the the welfare of a child and creating a substantial risk.

ORIGINAL STORY: Moberly police arrested a 29-year-old man after officers responded to the area of Williams Street  early Tuesday morning for reports of a suspicious person. 

Police said they found a man and took him to a hospital after he was found to possibly be intoxicated. 

Officers said it was later learned the man was supposed to have a 5-year-old child with him. 

Police said they searched the city and surrounding areas for the child, who was later found in an abandoned parked vehicle on U.S. 63 in Moberly city limits. 

Officers said they arrested the man and faces possible charges of child endangerment.
