JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -

Construction on a brand new retail store in the Capital City has been pushed back by three months, according to a city official.

Jefferson City Council approved a special exception permit for a Sam's Club store that will contain about 136,454 square feet of floor space.

Sam's Club plans to build a store and gas station on the east side of the future extension of Stoneridge Parkway in the Stoneridge Village shopping center, just south of Missouri Boulevard.

The proposed store will be located behind Menard's, near Dick's Sporting Goods.

Jefferson City Planning and Protective Services Director Janice McMillian said the project has been delayed because construction crews had to move a lot of rock in the area.

Crews plan to have the street done by July 1st, and after that, they will focus on infrastructure, electricity, stormwater, and building retaining walls.

Sam's Club plans to start building the structure in mid-October, weather permitting.

It is scheduled for completion in 2015.
