JEFFERSON CITY, Mo - Update - 6/2/2017 - 4:21 p.m.: John Laoiza has been charged with domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and two counts of fourth-degree assault.

The probable cause statement said Laoiza head-butted the victim after the two got into an argument.

After a two-and-a-half hour standoff with Jefferson City Police and SWAT crisis negotiators, Laoiza was taken into custody.

Online records show the bond amount is set at $25,000.

Original: Jefferson City police say a suspect has surrendered peacefully after a standoff late Thursday night.

It happened just before midnight in the 1100 block of Monroe Street.

Police say they responded to reports of a domestic assault. They say they were able to get the victim out of the apartment when they arrived through the back of the apartment.

Officers say they then tried to talk to the suspect upstairs who in return, confronted police with a knife and baseball bat.

Police say the suspect then retreated upstairs and barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Officers say the suspect eventually surrendered without incident.

There's no word yet on the name of the suspect and it's unclear if anyone was hurt.
