COLUMBIA, Mo. - The largest, busiest playground in the Columbia park system was set to close Monday for construction and renovations.
Steinberg Playground, located in Cosmo Park just north of Interstate 70, was in the middle of a multi-month expansion this summer.
The playground was set to close May 5 so crews could install the first pieces of new equipment. A late-May reopening was anticipated.
According to a news release, renovations were scheduled throughout the summer but the initial installation required a full closure.
The new features would open after a safety inspection.
The renovations to the 17-year-old playground were being funded by a 2010 Parks Sales Tax, with some help from the Disabilities Commission.
Parks and Recreation leaders encouraged families to visit playground at other parks - like Albert-Oakland, Cosmo-Bethel, and Rock Quarry - until the work was completed.
