A Jury convicted Horace Johnson of killing his son.

Feb 1, 2010 - Johnson Turns Back on Judge During Sentencing

Convicted killer Horace Johnson turned his back on Boone County judge Kevin Crane, when Crane handed down a 30 year punishment. Johnson was convicted of killing his 2-year old son Cortez. Johnson would often mumble things under his breath during Monday’s sentencing, sometimes refusing to answer questions asked by Crane. Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight asked for a life sentence for the second degree murder conviction, but told ABC 17 News he was equally pleased the ruling. “I can’t say I’m surprised with his reaction. Johnson is a violent dangerous criminal and always will be,” said Knight. During Monday’s proceedings, defense attorney Stephen Wyse argued for less prison time, calling upon the boy's mother Keyonda Lumpkin's case. “You have to look at this in context. She was the one administering the blows,” Wyse told the judge. In October, Lumpkin received 24 years for the crime.   Posted by Brynn Gingras
