While a specific cause has not been identified, Columbia fire investigators say smoking might have caused the fire that burned a home Sunday.

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, crews were called to 1001 Westport Drive, where they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the windows on the north side of the home.

The homeowner, Barbara Chancellor, was outside the home when firefighters arrived on the scene. She suffered burns to both arms and was taken to the hospital.

"Fire investigators are still waiting to interview the homeowner to make a final determination on the origin and cause of the fire," said a news release from the Columbia Fire Department. "Fire investigators believe that smoking was a contributing factor in the cause of the fire."

The fire is believed to have caused $75,000 in damage.
