The Columbia
Public Board says it wants to look at more options when it comes to budget reductions
for next school year.
Monday night the board approved all but one phase of the
budget cuts.
These were recommendations proposed by the finance
committee.
They totaled roughly $6 million in cuts, and were broken up
into three phases.
The board wants to look further into the Reorganization
Phase, which totals nearly half a million dollars.
This was the only phase NOT approved, because members were
concerned about cuts proposed to middle school athletics, elementary before and
after school choir and Parents as Teachers.
School officials will now have to work and see if they can
spare these areas.
What was approved were the Non Personnel Cuts, totaling $1.2
million and Personnel Reductions which were around $4 million.
The board also approved the Budget Parameters, which include
operating the salary schedule for teachers. This gives teachers a small boost in pay.
