Internet giant Google is looking for cities in which to test an ultra-high speed broadband network, and some people in Columbia want in.
Google says the network would perform one hundred times faster than what most Americans have access to right now.
A group called Como Fiber is leading the push for Google to test the network in Columbia. Como Fiber has a Facebook group with more than five thousand fans, as well as a Twitter account. The group gained a lot of attention with their homemade signs at Saturday's Mizzou game against Kansas.
Later this morning, Columbia organization REDI will take time at its
board meeting to talk about how to get a spot in the project. That meeting begins at 11:30 a.m.
Cities across the country have come up with a number of ways to try and get Google's attention. Leaders in Topeka, Kansas, proposed changing the name of the city to Google for a month, and City Island in Florida has changed its name to Google Island. The contest closes on March 26.
