More Mid Missouri bridges are about to get a face lift as part of a statewide plan.
13 bridges in three mid-Missouri counties will soon be under construction as part of the "Safe and Sound Bridge Project."
Boone, Callaway and Cooper counties will see the improvements.
In all there are seven in Boone County, one is on Route 63, and then all the rest are primarily on outer roads of I-70. Route WW will also see some work.
In Callaway County there are four bridges that will see work.
And in Cooper County just two bridges will see work.
Talking with MoDot engineers they tell us some of these bridges have been on their radars for a while.
Looking at the bridge that will soon be replaced on the I-70 South Outer Road, Near Stadium, you can even see the concrete crumbling off.
Over on Route WW, you can't see the concrete falling until you get underneath.
Engineers say concrete issues like this, as well as rusty steel are factors in determining what bridges to replace.
But just because issues like this are happening, doesn't mean the bridge is unsafe.
The bids for all 13 bridges will happen in the next few weeks, the construction will likely happen this fall.
While there is no exact price tag until the bids come in, MoDot officials anticipate it to be in the millions.
Out of the 800 bridges scheduled to be fixed under the "Safe and Sound Bridge Project," about 150 have been completed.
