An early-morning fire broke out in a Columbia aparment while the tenant was not at home. It happened just after midnight Friday morning at a building on Allen Walkway in central Columbia.
Officials say when they arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from an apartment on the second floor, and found flames in the master bedroom. The tenant wasn't home, but was visiting neighbors when the fire started.
There were no injuries; the fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage. So far there's no word on what caused the fire.
