Boone County Sheriff Deputies have reason to believe Friday's shooting at the Boone County Fairgrounds are related to the recent string of shootings in Columbia.
The shooting occurred at 9:30 Friday night at the fair. The victim was a 19 year old male, but authorities are not releasing his name, because he is being uncooperative with them and the people treating him at the hospital. He was shot in the upper left leg, and was taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Authorities believe there was only one shooter at the scene; at least nine shots were fired.
Boone County Sheriff's Deputies tell ABC17News they believe the shootings are all connected in on-going feud between groups. We're told the shooting Friday night was done in retaliation after a shooting Friday morning off of Hickman Ave, and the group deliberately went to the fair to shoot the victim.
Authorities are concerned because it appears these groups are taking matters into their own hands, instead of going to law enforcement, putting the public in danger. At Boone County Fair, they are stepping up patrols and increasing security.
