Unattended cooking caused a house fire on Snow Mass Drive Tuesday evening that left about $18,000 in damage, according to the Columbia Fire Dept.

Firefighters responded about 6:40 p.m. and found neighbors had already helped the resident put the fire out.  The blaze left smoke damage throughout the house and major fire damage in the kitchen.

The resident home at the time suffered minor smoke inhalation but refused medical treatment.
