UPDATE: Fatal car fire in Columbia...

COLUMBIA, Mo. - UPDATE 11:10 a.m.: Columbia police confirm it was a woman who died in a car fire early Tuesday morning.

Police said the woman was found in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

First responders found two kids, ages 2 and 6, in the area uninjured. Police determined that the kids were related to the woman who died.

Police said after a preliminary investigation, the car was intentionally set on fire, but no foul play is suspected.

Firefighters said they were able to extinguish the car fire after being at the scene for five minutes.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police are investigating a fatal car fire that happened early Tuesday morning. 


The call came in around 1:15 a.m. for a vehicle fire near Grindstone Parkway and Bearfield Road. The Columbia Fire Department also responded. 

There is one confirmed fatality, CPD reports. A sergeant said no one else was taken to the hospital. There is only one car involved. 

The car ended up in the grass on the northeast part of the intersection, in front of a day care. Police aren't sure yet how the car got to this spot.
