One arrested after Maries County crash

MARIES COUNTY, Mo. - UPDATE 10/17: Maynard has been charged with a DWI and leaving the scene of the accident after Sunday's crash. 

According to the probable cause statement, Maynard ran away from the crash scene but deputies were able to locate and arrest him.

Troopers said they were able to detect a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Maynard. He also had watery, bloodshot and glassy eyes, troopers said. 

Behind the driver's seat of Maynard's car first responders found an empty bottle of Wild Turkey American Honey, troopers said. 

Troopers said as of Tuesday Roach is still in the hospital and has a fracture to his spine that he will have to have surgery for. 

According to public jail records, Maynard is currently in the Maries County Jail.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Highway Patrol arrested a man they say caused a crash that seriously injured another driver. 

The crash happened Sunday afternoon around 4:40 p.m. According to the crash report, John Maynard, 19, crossed the center line on Highway 133, about two miles north of Brinktown in Maries County. 

Maynard hit Christopher Roach, 47, causing Roach's car to flip. Roach was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield in serious condition. 

Maynard was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license and careless and imprudent driving.
