Troopers arrest woman accused of failing to wear her seat belt, bringing drugs into jail

MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Melanie Hodge after troopers spotted a car displaying plates registered to another vehicle.

According to the probable cause statement, when troopers approached the car they noticed Hodge, the passenger, not wearing her seatbelt.

Troopers said Hodge was breathing hard, speaking softly and her teeth showed signs of excessive decay.

Troopers said the driver consented to a search of the vehicle and person but Hodge was hesitant to allow.

After troopers described how they would search Hodge, she advised troopers she had nothing illegal on her person but refused the search.

Troopers said they arrested Hodge for failing to wear her seatbelt and transported her to the Morgan County Jail.

When Hodge arrived at the jail she handed over a small canister and a prescription container.

Police tested the substances inside the containers and found methamphetamine, acetaminophen, hydrocodone and ocycodone hydrochloride.

Hodge is charged with possession of a controlled substance and delivery or possession of a controlled substance at county/private jail/corr center except with written prescription.
