Warrant requested for man accused of making false bomb threat

COLUMBIA, Mo. - A warrant has been requested for Donte' Hopkins after he was accused of making a false bomb threat.

According to the probable cause statement, Hopkins was sitting at the Columbia City Transit bus stop shelter and was making small talk with a woman when he dared her to go to the bus driver and tell him that the bus would blow up if it stopped moving.

The woman refused to make the statements to the bus driver, got on the bus and sat away from Hopkins. She eventually exited the bus and contacted the police to report the incident.

ABC17 previously reported that the incident was dispatched as a bomb threat and the area around the Hearnes Center was evacuated and searched for explosives.

Hopkins later told officers he only made the statement as part of a joke in an attempt to make the woman laugh.
