Shooting in downtown Columbia injures three
Columbia police have no new information Sunday after three people were injured in a shooting early Saturday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a shooting near 10th Street and Broadway.
Police say one victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body. A second victim was transported to the hospital by a personal vehicle.
A third victim was located during a traffic stop, but his injuries are unknown.
Police found eight shell casings on 10th Street between Broadway and Walnut Street.
Police have not released a description of the suspect or suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
On Sunday, CPD spokesperson Ofc. Latisha Stroer told ABC 17 News there are no new updates in the case.
Witnesses who spoke to ABC 17 News said they are just trying to tie it all together.
One woman who was at a bar down the street from the shooting said she saw girls run in after shots were fired.
"Some girls came running inside, they just heard fired off rounds. We just heard a whole bunch of rounds go off," said the witness.
More than 30 people were outside on the corner of 10th and Broadway during the shooting.
One witness told us he saw one person amongst the chaos who stood out.
The man he thought was the shooter was standing right next to a tree. Right after the shots were fired, the man he thought was the shooter casually walks away in the opposite direction.
An eyewitness told ABC 17 News he saw multiple people surrounding an injured victim and police confirmed a man was shot multiple times.
A worker at Iron Tiger Tattoo shop said he saw the man lying on the street with a bullet wound in his calf.
Another worker who has lives in Columbia for a long time tells us an incident like this is disheartening.
"It's upsetting to see them up the anty if you will. This type of stuff usually happens a street over or back but something like this -- right in the thick of Broadway on a Friday night. I don't want to see that become a more regular thing," said another witness.
