Rain Tracker Confirms Flooding Threat from Hermine

The remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine are passing through Oklahoma today. The circulation from this storm will likely move very close to Mid-Missouri late Thursday. As a result, a prolonged period of rain and some thunder is expected Thursday and early Friday. Some heavy rain will also accompany the passage of this system. The flooding threat will be mitigated by the pace of this storm and the fact that it is weakening. However, a general 1 to 3 inch rainfall will likely still cause some minor flooding across Mid-Missouri. Low-water crossings, small streams and creeks, and many urban tributaries will be most prone to flooding by Friday morning.

Labor Day Forecast: Windy and Warm

Southerly winds will increase Monday ahead of a cold front which will increase clouds Monday evening. South winds sustained at 15-20 in the afternoon will gust to 30 mph at times, ushering in warm air with daytime highs in the upper 80s. As a weak cold front moves through Monday night, a few light showers will be possible from late evening and overnight.

Not As Chilly Tonight

After the coldest night since May, temperatures won't be as chilly this evening. Winds from the south will help to warm us up overnight, keeping temperatures in the low to middle 50s by early Sunday. With clear skies and light winds, there may be some patchy fog right along the Missouri River early Sunday morning, but I'm not expecting widespread dense fog by any means.

Otherwise, the mid-Missouri weather remains quiet with high pressure centered over southern Missouri. You can see from the surface map below that dewpoints remain relatively low as well, providing us with a crisp feel to the air. However, this will be short-lived, as winds shift around to the south overnight and Sunday, we'll begin to feel the influence of warmer and more moist air moving up into the region.
