The Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday signed defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, who was cut by the New England Patriots this week.

Kelly played in five games last year before tearing his ACL.

To make room on the current 75-man roster, defensive lineman Ryan McBean was released.

Kelly's signing is an attempt by the Cardinals to shore up the defensive line after the season-ending ACL injury to Darnell Dockett. Dockett underwent successful surgery to repair the knee ligaments Tuesday.

Kelly, 33, had 22 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks for the Patriots last year before going down with his season-ending injury. He had been working with New England's first unit much of the preseason before he was released.
