Defending national champion Florida State beat Oklahoma State in the Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium despite some uneasy moments in the second half. Alabama also won in a neutral site game, downing West Virginia 33-23 at Atlanta.
The Seminoles received 46 first-place votes, with Alabama (1), No. 3 Oregon (5) and fourth-ranked Oklahoma (2) also getting votes for the top spot.
Surprisingly, LSU, which is 12th, received a first-place vote. The Tigers survived in Houston to beat Wisconsin but trailed most of the game.
Texas A&M was the biggest climber in the latest poll. The Aggies were 21st in the preseason poll but land at ninth this week. Texas A&M's 52-28 win over South Carolina last Thursday pushed South Carolina to the Aggies' old spot in the poll (21).
Louisville broke into the poll at No. 25 following the Cardinals' ACC victory over Miami (Fla.) on Monday night.
Auburn (fifth), Georgia, Michigan State and Ohio State are ahead of Texas A&M. Ohio State dropped from No. 5. The Buckeyes beat Navy 34-17 and host Virginia Tech in a primetime game at Ohio Stadium this week.
Michigan State and Oregon headline the Week 2 schedule with an early Pac-12 clash between ranked teams -- No. 13 Stanford hosts 14th-ranked Southern Call -- also on the docket.
