Twins right-hander Kyle Gibson ran into trouble in the third. With the bases loaded, Evan Longoria hit a 2-0 fastball off the wall in right for a double, clearing the bases for a 3-0 lead. Minnesota's Trevor Plouffe hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but Rays regained a three-run lead in the fifth when Ben Zobrist ripped a Gibson fastball for a two-run blast.

Diamondbacks 5, Cubs 4

PHOENIX -- Paul Goldschmidt homered and Didi Gregorius had two RBI singles as Arizona overcame a three-run deficit to beat Chicago.

Goldschmidt hit his 17th home run of the season with one out in a three-run sixth inning, when Arizona had five hits off Cubs starter Edwin Jackson and three relievers. Gerardo Parra hit a sacrifice fly off reliever Brian Schlitter (2-3) to tie the score at 4 later in the inning before Gregorius' second RBI single gave reliever Eury De La Rosa (1-0) the victory.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo had two home runs and three RBIs for the Cubs, who have lost nine of their last 11.

Mets 5, Padres 4

SAN DIEGO -- Travis d'Arnaud singled home Curtis Granderson with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lead New York past San Diego.

D'Arnaud, who also singled home Granderson in the Mets' three-run first, snapped a 4-4 tie with his full-count, opposite-field grounder past Padres first baseman Jake Goebbert.

The hit came off Joaquin Benoit, who was pitching the ninth because the Padres had agreed to trade right-handed closer Huston Street to the Los Angeles Angels earlier in the evening.
