Red Sox 3, Rays 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- David Ortiz hit a mammoth three-run homer, and the Red Sox ended a five-game slide and snapped the Rays' season-high nine-game winning streak. It was also the first Red Sox win in Tropicana Field this season.

Ortiz went deep in the top of the third. Desmond Jennings responded with a two-run double in the bottom of the inning, but neither team scored again.

Boston's Allen Webster (1-0) threw 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball for the win while taking the place of traded veteran Jake Peavy in Boston's rotation.
