A fan who suffered cardiac arrest at the inaugural football game in Levi's Stadium in San Clara, Calif., died Sunday.

The unidentified man was surrounded by other fans when he collapsed during the third quarter of Sunday's preseason matchup between the San Franciso 49ers and and the Denver Broncos.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and administered CPR, but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to the Santa Clara Fire Department.

"The 49ers organization is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our fans," the team said in a statement. "We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family and friends in this time of sadness."

The San Jose Mercury News reported that the 80 degree temperature led to a large number of requests for emergency services, but it is unknown whether heat played a role in the man's death.

Two workers previously died in accidents at the $1.3 million new stadium during its construction.
