Severe T-Storms Possible Late Thursday

Submitted by Jeff Huffman on Wed Sep 1, 2010 8:41am (BACK TO TOP)

A strong cold front will pick up in speed and grow in strength as it moves through the state on Thursday.  With little or no rainfall overnight and through the morning hours Thursday, the atmosphere is expected to become warm, humid, and very unstable by early afternoon.  This will likely lead to the rapid development of strong thunderstorms along the front near a Kansas City to Kirksville line by 2pm.  These storms are expected to quickly converge into a squall line that will advance southeast through Mid-Missouri between 2 and 8pm Thursday.  The leading edge of this line of storms will likely have some strong wind gusts, potentially producing widespread damage.  Frequent lightning, small hail, and very heavy rain will also accompany this line of storms.  All those with outdoor interests on  Thursday afternoon should continue to monitor this site and ABC17 Stormtrack 24/7 for future updates.

There are no threats within the next 48 hours.
