An arctic cold front will sweep through Mid-Missouri Wednesday afternoon, ushering in significantly cold air Wednesday night and Thursday.

Northwesterly winds will pick up through the afternoon and remain blustery overnight and Thursday. Sustained winds will be around 20 mph, with gusts to 30 mph.

As skies clear late Wednesday, air temperatures will fall to near zero with wind chills as low as -15 to -24 by daybreak Thursday. Highs Thursday will only reach the low teens, but the breezy northerly winds will keep wind chills between 0 and -10 the entire day.

Because of the dangerously low wind chills, a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from 9pm Wednesday through noon Thursday for all of Mid-Missouri.

In this extreme cold, frostbite can occur within minutes on exposed skin. Make sure you are bundled up with layers of clothing, gloves, hats and scarves if you have to be outdoors.
