A combination of arctic air, a clear sky, diminishing winds and snow cover helped to create ideal conditions for temperatures to drop early Tuesday morning.

Lake of the Ozarks dropped to -15°, Jefferson City hit -14° and Columbia's low was -11°. Wind chills dropped to -25° for parts of the area into Tuesday morning.

Columbia's all-time low temperature is -26°, which was set Feb. 12, 1899.
