Boone County firefighters recovering after being pinned by vehicle

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. - Three Boone County Fire Protection District firefighters are recovering after being pinned by a vehicle at the scene of a fire Monday night.

The department told ABC 17 News on Tuesday afternoon that two of the firefighters were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

Both are expected to return to their roles with the fire department in a couple of days.

A third firefighter remains at the hospital in moderate condition but is expected to recover.

Assistant Fire Chief Gale Blomenkamp said the firefighters were pinned between a fire truck and another firefighter's personal vehicle at the scene of a two-story garage fire in the 6000 block of Route KK around 6 p.m Monday.

Blomenkamp reported the firefighters were putting on their air packs and preparing to battle the fire when they were pinned.

"We'll have to figure out what happened and how it occurred and then we go from there," said Blomenkamp.

An investigation is underway, but emergency crews believe the vehicle slipped out of gear and that the incident was an accident.
