RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Cole County man died after his truck went off the road and slammed into a tree early Sunday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Daniel Rockelman, 66, of Russellville, was driving on Scrivner Road just west of North Branch Road southeast of Russellville when he went off the road.

The patrol says Rockelman hit a mailbox then over-corrected, causing his Chevrolet Silverado to skid. The truck then went off the road and hit trees.

The patrol said someone heard the crash at 3 a.m. Sunday but heavy fog obscured the scene, which was not found until 8:20 a.m.

Rockelman was pronounced dead at the scene.
