Motorcyclist escapes from Mexico police

Officers believe they know driver's identity

MEXICO, Mo. - Mexico police are looking for a motorcycle rider who drove off the road and ran from officers early Thursday.

An officer tried to pull over a spray-painted blue "street bike"-style motorcycle on Lakeview Road at about 12:30 a.m., the Mexico Department of Public Safety said in a news release. The officer began chasing the motorcycle after it didn't stop. The motorcycle driver went off the road and ran after encountering another police officer during the chase near Elmwood Drive and West Liberty, police said.

The motorcyclist had a short struggle with a police officer before escaping, police said. Police believe they know the driver's identity and will apply for arrest warrants after further investigation.

Police ask anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 800-392-8477 or Mexico Public Safety at 573-581-2100 or 573-473-5800.
