JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Jefferson City police are investigating a second deadly shooting this week.
Officers said they were called to the 800 block of Broadway near West Ashley Street around 11 p.m. on Wednesday for reported shots fired.
Police said they arrived at the scene and found two men suffering gunshot wounds near the apartments on W. Atchison Street.
They were taken to the hospital, and one 33-year-old male victim was pronounced dead because of the wounds. The second victim, a 20-year-old man, was taken to University Hospital with critical injuries. No names have been released.
Lieutenant David Williams said JCPD is working to notify the families of both the deceased victim and the man in critical condition.
"We don't want anyone not knowing about it and we have been busy so we want to make sure we have reached out to everyone," he said.
No arrests have been made in the shooting, and police say the alleged shooter fled on foot. The investigation is ongoing.
This comes one night after another shooting resulted in the death of a Lincoln University student leader.
"Last night’s shooting is not connected to the shooting Tuesday night at Dawson and E Capitol in which D’Angelo-Bratton Bland was murdered," JCPD officials said in a press release.
David Williams said the police department asks the community to contact them with any information.
"Since they are not connected to each other, that's two separate investigations, two separate paths the investigators have to go on," he said. "We are doing everything we can and we continue to ask for help."
