Rain and freezing rain through Tuesday night, slick roads for parts of Mid-MO

***Winter Weather Advisory until noon Wednesday for Audrain, Boone, Benton, Cooper, Chariton, Howard, Macon, Monroe, Moniteau, Morgan, Pettis, Randolph and Saline counties for possible ice due to freezing rain***

TONIGHT: Rain showers and isolated t-storms will continue through late this evening with freezing rain in the west-northwest half of Mid-MO where there is a Winter Weather Advisory. The bulk of the rain will shift near the I-44 corridor overnight with rain tapering off to the northwest by morning. Temperatures remain steady in the low to mid 30s overnight but will hover near 40 closer to I-44 in the warmer air.

WEDNESDAY: Fog, drizzle and freezing drizzle are possible early with showers increasing through the afternoon. The warmer air to the south will gradually lift to the north but temperatures will still be below freezing until early afternoon in areas north of I-70 where additional freezing rain is possible. Temperatures climb into the 40s in the Ozarks by evening and rise above freezing up to HWY 24 as more rain moves in late in the day. Rain will become moderate to heavy at times in the Ozarks with possible t-storms Wednesday evening and overnight. There is a marginal severe storm threat for areas near I-44 where an isolated storm with large hail or strong wind gusts is possible.

EXTENDED: Rain showers will be widespread Wednesday night with embedded storms and heavy rain at times near I-44. Farther north, we could see more freezing rain in areas north of I-70 where temperatures will hover near freezing late Wednesday night. As a cold front moves in Thursday morning, a light wintry mix is possible before precipitation ends by noon as colder air moves in.  Behind the front, expect temperatures to drastically drop through the day Thursday, with overnight lows dipping to near 10 Thursday night into Friday morning. Highs will only reach the mid 20s Friday, dropping back into the teens Friday night. It looks like we'll warm slightly this upcoming weekend, with a chance of rain/ snow mix Sunday.
